Elements Fragrance

The Brief

A leading UK retailer first approached Matrix to create a timeless men’s fragrance range with in-store longevity, to be sold across their 350 stores. At this time, they only had one range of men’s fragrance in store, and to keep up with growing demand and competitors on the high street, they identified the need to expand their offering within men’s fragrance.

The Work

Packaging, bottle designs and fragrances were conceptualised and brought to life by the Matrix design team. Scent examples were then presented with a guide to the different fragrances, while product samples were submitted so the buyers could see the overall look of the range. Matrix worked collaboratively with the retailer to create the final bottle design and fragrance pairing.

The Result

Matrix developed a core range of Men’s fragrance with a simple yet sleek design called ‘Elements’, which proved to be a best-selling line. Following the success of the initial design concepts the retailer then requested limited edition fragrances as additional drop-ins to the collection, inspired by seasonal trends.

Further Product Development

After the creation of the two core Elements fragrances, the design team looked closely at current trends and with each season developed relevant designs to feature in-store as limited-edition men’s fragrances.

Following on from the SS18 tropic trend, an exotic jungle themed ‘Elements Wild’ fragrance was developed, with the design featuring an ombre green glass bottle with a loud and eccentric print which was bold and fitting as a spring/summer fragrance. The AW18 trend eclectic heritage lead to the creation of the ‘Elements Nocturnal’ fragrance, a sophisticated design that showcased the prominence of textured print in design.

Being given scope to diversify the best-selling fragrances has provided Matrix with the opportunity to showcase a range of design capabilities as well as the adaptability of the range to seasonal trends.

As well as creating the limited-edition fragrances for each season, the range has expanded to include Elements men’s bath and body products. The two leading fragrances in the range are ‘Elements Day’ and ‘Elements Night’ which are staple buys with units steadily increasing annually.
