Getting sleep onboard long-haul flights is very important for frequent flyers. At Matrix, we research, create and produce products that airlines can use to help give passengers a comfortable night’s sleep to minimise the effects of dehydration and exhaustion. Last year, we launched Hydra Active sleep suits with Emirates, which have the benefit of hydrating travellers during flights, where humidity levels can plummet from 80% to 20%, therefore having a direct effect on reducing jetlag symptoms.
At WTCE, the leading global event for onboard products and services, we introduced our collaborative work with Russell Foster, who is a leading authority on sleep. We explored the science behind sleep and gave some tips to the airlines on how to provide solutions to travellers. The overwhelming response to this event confirmed that this is an area of concern for passengers and airlines alike.
The exciting announcement last week of our involvement in the partnership between British Airways and The White Company is our latest step forward in promoting sleep onboard. A new range of expertly designed bedding and amenities will transform the flying experience for British Airways Club World flyers. The new range, which aims to deliver a great night’s sleep in the sky, is part of a significant investment plan by the airline. Later this year, customers travelling with Club World between Heathrow and New York’s JFK will receive a whole new suite of products including pillows, cushions, blankets, and other items that have been crafted to achieve the height of comfort.
Matt Morgan, our in-house innovation expert, spoke to Travel Plus Amenities Magazine about the impact of not sleeping and how airlines can provide solutions, in the recently published Summer 2017 magazine.
These advancements are great steps forward and we believe we can accomplish a lot more in this area.
